Graduate Assistantship Scheme

Graduate Assistantship Scheme (or GA Scheme) - first time hearing about it when i enroll into the MSc program of UTP. ever you heard about it?

what is GA scheme?
hehe.. let me briefly explain what it's all about and how does it kinda manipulating us, the MSc students, hehe.. GA scheme is a scheme offered by the varsity to help the students to pay the fees of the course - around rm17,00/year.

how is GA scheme being implement?
student had to serve the department, by doing some academic deliveries - such as lab demonstrating, conducting tutorial classes, mending lab manuals, trial run of new equipment etc. , everything regarding academic deliveries- for 52 hours/month, or equivalent to 13 hours/week. which means that at least two days of the working days being dedicated to complete the GA workload.

what is gained from GA scheme?
serving 52 hours per month will waive out the rm17,000 fees to be paid annually. and the student will be paid rm60 per working days (which is calculated as 22 pukul rata). so now you know how much i'm earning? yeahhh.. hehe.. seciput je beb.. around rm1320/month. and of course, what is gained from it is the experience of teaching and dealing with students and also lecturers. good one. yang baik dijadikan tauladan, yang tak baik dijadikan sempadan.

what if the workload of 52 hours/month is not completed?
huh, this what had happened to me last month! no allowance for the whole month!! and if this matter continue for the next month, the student may be asked to pay for the fees! which is around rm1400 a month.

is GA workload and pay worth it?
ermm.. very i guess.. dari segi materialnya mmg nmpk sedikit, ony rm1320 gained - x tolak duit sewa rumah, bil air, bil elektrik, bil telefon.. but then the rm1400++ being waived to pay the fees pun should be considered. so sbnrnye dpt around rm2700 - wow, byk tu, kalah gaji engineer petronas yg baru masuk keje... hehe.. tp tula, can't be seen in material wise. but then kadang kadang bila fikir balik bakpe la byr smp rm1400 per month to utp ni? opis pun xde pc.. kena pakai pc sendiri, xpun menempek kat lab mana mana yg ada pc. sedang student cuti ni mewahla aku guna lab ni tp when the semster starts haruslah aku menjadi bagai melukut di tepi gantang je, huhu..

conclusions
bersyukur je lah dgn apa yg Allah kurniakan.. keep striving for the best, dan tawakkal je lah.. ganbatte kudasai~!!!
