UTP WON GOLD IN GENEVA

All three entries by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS' (UTP) researchers wonawards in the '34th International Exhibition Of Invention, New TechniquesAnd Products of Geneva' held at the Palace of Expositions (PALEXPO) inGeneva, Switzerland from 5 ? 9 April 2006. Being a first timer at the competition, the success is a great achievement and indeed a testimony for the researach strength of the university.One of the teams led by Ir M. Shiraz Aris and Ms. Chin Yee Sing won a goldmedal for a project entitled 'Biomass Fuel Briquette From an OptimisedMixing Ratio of Oil Palm Waste'. This is a Biomass fuel briquette made fromoil palm shell and fiber with waste paper.

UTP also won a silver medal through another team comprising Prof V. R.Radhakrishnan, Ms. Haslinda Zabiri, Ms. Chai Siew Wah, Dr M. Ramasamy, Mr.Nasser B M Ramli, Ms.Yong Suet Peng on their project entitled 'InTERPRIDIntelligent Predictor'. This was based on the technology for megavariatemodeling, with applications in petroleum refinery, petrochemical and gasprocessing plants. In essence it is a technology suite for convertingoperational data into process knowledge used in process plants. It enablesthe prediction of complex quality parameters. Based on artificialintelligence, it can minimise energy use and optimise process performance.

The other silver medal went to Mr. M. Zamri Abdullah's project entitled'PANDANEX: The Ingeniously Developed Water Filteration Kit'. This is aflexible water filter kit and it is unique as the absorbent uses thePandanus leaves (Daun Pandan) in their natural dried form, without chemical treatment. It is able to remove up to 99% contaminants.

UTP's booth at the exhibition also received a few distinguished visitorsnamely The Raja Muda of Perlis, His Royal Highness DYTM Syed FaizuddinPutra Ibni Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Datuk Hsu King Bee, MalaysianPermanent Representative to the United Nations and Dr. Daud Mohamad,Director General of Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Energy.The exhibition attracted participations of more than 700 entries from 32countries including Malaysia, Iran, USA, UK, France, Germany, Rumania among others.

sbnrnya wat projek ni masa final year undergrad dulu. bukanlah mr zamri cilok keseluruhan projek. sbb dia tu mmg supervisor aku dulu, hehe.. dulu aku tlg wat projek ni utk dia, dan bbrp org student lain pun turut contribute. so partly from what being exhibited di geneva ialah result fyp aku juga, secara tak langsung la.. hehe.. walaupun cuma dpt B+ je dulu masa amik fyp tu, tp aku sgt suka sbb aku wat projek tu amik masa 3 minggu saja! ahaha.. biasala, last minit punya keje ;P ingt lg keje membeli daun pandan, mengering, meng'grind'.. huhu.. bagus skali rasanya~!! walaupun cuma dpt silver tp at least direcognize di international level , huhu.. cayalah mr zamri! syukur alhamdu lillah...

p/s: projek masters ni agaknye bole pakai ke aa? thesis x siap lg ni, ada yg kena panahan berapi dari supervisor ni, ahaha...
